Statement from the Ambassador

Welcome to the website of the Permanent Mission of the Federated States of Micronesia to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, Switzerland. This is a new FSM Overseas Diplomatic Mission which is duly accredited to the UN Office and other International Organizations in Geneva and accredited as the Embassy of the Federated States of Micronesia to the host Country of Switzerland.

I wish to take this opportunity to touch on some fundamental reasons which I believe may have prompted our leadership to make the strategic decision to open this Diplomatic Mission. This is the first Diplomatic Mission in Europe, and our presence here would hopefully elevate our participation in the various discussions involving such international issues dealing with world intellectual property rights, international labour issues, human rights, climate change, international maritime and telecommunication matters, and of course the life-saving international health issues being addressed by the World Health Organization. Geneva is also where the Red Cross has its headquarters. Matter of fact, there are over 40 plus International Organizations headquartered in Geneva and have some direct or indirect roles in the multilateral issues which the Federated States of Micronesia is currently dealing with.

The FSM Permanent Mission has a tall order to handle and with this website, it is my hope that our citizens like you can share with us your views, concerns and suggestions on how best to make use of this opportunity of our presence in Geneva and the greater Continental Europe. As we continue to navigate and find our way to the numerous meetings, conferences, and other engagements organized by the United Nations Office and the various International Organizations in Geneva, we appreciate very much your patience and understanding.

We will continue to do our best to attend to your inquiries on matters related to the work of this Diplomatic Mission. Soon, we may be able to add to our portfolio and provide consular work to assist with our citizens living or travelling to the European countries and may need consular assistance. The Permanent Mission here in Geneva is strategically located to collaborate with the work of FSM’s Permanent Mission at the United Nations in New York. Considering the complexities of the nature of the work dealing with multilateral affairs, I believe the decision to establish a Diplomatic Mission here in Geneva is timely and worthy of the clarion call for the FSM to engage more through its bilateral and multilateral relations in support of the awesome task of nation building.
